Project Summary/Abstract The new tobacco control law, 2016 Amending the Prevention and Control of Tobacco Products Law, also known as the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Control Law (COTP), aims to eliminate the production and sale of tobacco products in Indonesia. However, it allows some tobacco products, such as e-cigarettes, to remain on the market. These products are widely available on the Internet, and online shops are the primary source of sale. The existing law on tobacco control, 2006 COTP, banned the production and sale of cigarettes, cigars and kreteks, which contributed to the decline in tobacco use in Indonesia, but it did not control e-cigarettes. We propose to compare the prevalence of smoking and electronic cigarette use among individuals in different neighborhoods in Jakarta, Indonesia. We will examine whether e-cigarette users are more likely to be in neighborhoods of high smoking prevalence and if e-cigarette use is more common in neighborhoods of high e-cigarette retail availability, especially among adolescent and young adult users. We also propose to conduct exploratory analyses that compare electronic cigarette and tobacco cigarette users to determine whether there are important similarities in the ways in which these two products are used. We will also test whether smokers have greater cessation among the e-cigarette users, compared to non-users. The proposed study will benefit from a combination of data sources, including a cross-sectional survey, an observational survey of e-cigarette and tobacco cigarette retailers, and a novel analysis of cigarette sales data. The study aims to investigate the prevalence and determinants of e-cigarette and tobacco cigarette use, and the relationship of e-cigarette use with tobacco cigarette cessation among the general population in Indonesia.Association of a salt-loving system of Glycine max with an H(+)-ATPase in salt-induced salt tolerance.
